Pilgrim-House-Summer

Pilgrim House is home to Fishes & Loaves, a pantry that provides food for over 100 families throughout the year. Our building has three rooms for food storage and distribution, plus two “clothes closets” that are open to all. Our equipment includes 8 freezers, 2 refrigerators and 3 air-conditioning units. We also have a large community room with space for events and functions and a meeting room for smaller groups.

Fishes and Loaves’ future at Pilgrim House is not assured, however, since our building and premises need major repairs. These include a new roof, handicapped access, replacement of flooring and parking lot re-surfacing.

To achieve our goal of keeping Pilgrim House viable, safe and accessible we need the help of the broader community: at present we lack the funds to implement the needed improvements.

Please consider making a donation toward our ambitious goal of $100,000 for repairs needed at Pilgrim House. Our priority is a new roof, estimated at $40,000, that we hope to have completed before November of this year. An emergency repair was made last fall and we do not want to experience the same problem as winter approaches.

Should the building have to close it would be difficult, if not impossible, for Fishes & Loaves to remain in Canaan to serve its residents. Space requirements plus the cost of electricity to run our major appliances would present a significant challenge; other groups would   have to look elsewhere as well.

Your tax-deductible donation payable to Pilgrim House – Fishes & Loaves may be sent to Pilgrim House, P.O. Box 306, 30 Granite Avenue, Canaan, CT 06018. Thank you for your help!
